About Coach Rizzo

Coach John Rizzo is the Head Baseball Coach at Cayuga Community College and brings extensive experience in collegiate coaching, player development, and program leadership to Baseball School CNY.

Coach Rizzo joined the Cayuga baseball program in 2019 as an Assistant Coach under TJ Gamba before taking over as Head Coach. In his first five seasons leading the Spartans, he compiled a 141–80 record while establishing Cayuga as a consistent contender within Region III baseball.

Under Coach Rizzo, Cayuga has won four conference championships in 2022, 2023, 2025, and 2026 and advanced to the Regional Tournament in five consecutive seasons from 2022–2026. He was named MSAC Coach of the Year in 2022.

His tenure has also produced significant individual success for Cayuga players. Twenty-one Spartans have earned All-Region recognition, while players within the program have earned Region III Player of the Year, Conference Player of the Year, All-American honors, and three Rawlings Gold Gloves. Players from the program have also continued their careers at four-year institutions and into professional baseball.

Beyond wins and individual honors, Coach Rizzo's experience is rooted in developing collegiate players and building a program in which athletes are expected to learn, compete, take responsibility, and continue progressing both individually and as teammates.

At Baseball School CNY, Coach Rizzo brings that collegiate coaching perspective to younger players while keeping instruction appropriate for their age and stage of development. He works with players on overall baseball skills, game understanding, situational awareness, and the habits that help young athletes become increasingly capable and independent baseball players.
