About Coach Phil

Phil Madvek brings more than 25 years of experience in baseball as a player, coach, and instructor, with much of his coaching career focused on pitching development, strength & conditioning, and teaching athletes as they progress through the game.

Phil grew up in Northwest Indiana and began playing baseball at six years old. His playing career eventually led him to the collegiate level at Division II Purdue University Northwest, where he earned his B.S. in Biology in 2017.

Following his playing career, Phil began coaching at Purdue Northwest, working alongside Dave Griffin and Shane Prance and contributing to the development of the program's strength and velocity training.

Phil later had the opportunity to coach in Palm Springs, working with collegiate players from NCAA, NAIA, and junior college programs. His role focused on helping established college athletes continue their development and prepare for opportunities to advance within collegiate baseball.

He continued his coaching career at Tiffin University in Ohio as a graduate assistant, strength & conditioning coach, and assistant pitching coach. Working alongside Joe Wilkins and Brandon Cantrill, Phil helped implement the Dragons' strength and pitching development program and was part of a conference tournament championship during his first season.

Phil later returned to Northwest Indiana and worked as a pitching instructor at D-BAT Mokena before relocating to Central New York in 2020.

Today, Phil is a science teacher in the Syracuse City School District and continues to work extensively with youth and high school pitchers throughout Central New York.

At Baseball School CNY, Phil serves as a Senior Coach with a primary focus on pitching and works with players through Pitching School, Big Field Prep, camps, clinics, and private instruction. His experience as a player, collegiate coach, strength & conditioning coach, pitching instructor, and classroom teacher gives Phil a well-rounded approach centered on teaching players how to throw, pitch, prepare physically, and continue developing as the demands of the game increase.
